JOY

I'm pretty sure that this pic says it all. Why do we all do what we do? Ask any CIGer and you'll get the same answer. "To Have a Good Time!"
From us to you - embrace joy every chance you get: on stage, at home, outside in the snow.

Having way too much fun...the shows have begun!

Well, the Centennial XNight was a crazy wild success. 6 teams, 12 scenes, pizza, birthday cake, crazy great fudge, the India contingent from Centennial AND the internet gone totally wild with the most awesome virus ever seen by man - ever!!!! It is highly unlikely that the same virus will strike again but one never knows. I've heard something is brewing at Laura Secord, set to infect the stage at 7pm tomorrow.

Where's Grandma? Did someone say something about an aquarium?

Breakfast for a song

A HUGE THANK YOU GOES OUT TO ALL WHO JOINED US FOR OUR NOW ANNUAL BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER AT MUSTANGS. Who knew that such an early rise on a Sunday morning would be so full of craziness - did Peter really know what he was in for when he welcomed us into his restaurant last spring? We could have warned him but then that's no fun.

You never know what might come your way when you spend even just a little bit of time with these guys. If you're lucky, you might even get a musical escort from the building.

Sombreros, rusty singing, eggs, a horribly grouchy totally overstressed server and a tribute to Movember...does it get any better?

Let's begin at the beginning - GSSImprov 2011!!

So a new season awaits us, and even though 7 of last year's 8 team members are back together again, we still need to start at the beginning. Ok, so the first step is really getting to know each other but because we have that one covered from last year - plus, we spend way too much time in the Improv Hallway - we can begin with bringing everyone together into one - a true team. It's all about creating one mind out of, in this case, 7. Sure the brain is fairly well developed from last year but a part is missing - and we miss HER but... with a missing part comes a new start. And this start is TRUST.

Trust from the outside.

                                                    But from the inside???

Hosehead- "I did not doubt anyone for a second"

Vote for Movember!- " This made me feel light headed, thank goodness I had Gusteau le Music Man and Baby Huey the Dutch Beluga's positive vibes at my sides. Much better than blindfolds with no speech ..."

Captain Hosanna- "When my eyes are not in use, my armpits think they can see."

Baby Hewy the Dutch Baluga- "Woah-oh-oh it's magic. Ya knoooow. Never believe it's not so. It's actually really neat to feel the group energy, to feel everyone in one line. "

PS. SOMEone in the group is a sweaty hobbit.

Shewhocannotbenamed- "I'm just glad that everyone else was blindfolded and couldn't see the fish concentration expression on my face."

Mr. Atlas- "Yes, I am the one in the wolf shirt, I can see you staring at me. My wolf shirt glory is unviewable to you, you blindfolded people. I shall lead you flock of sheep to safety... except for Mr. I'll-just-do-my-own-thing... you know who you are..."

Gusteau the Music Man - "Who would have thought that inchin' and toein' and slidin' in the dark would bring us even closer? The Improv Gods, that's who."

So much commitment...so much talent...

For the last month, you have all been nothing short of fantastic. Each and every one of you have given everything you have to the moment. These moments are what make up what we all know and love about improv. It is very clear that GSS Improv has many more of these moments to come, this year and in the years to come. The journey has only just begun ...

Beginning Mon. Oct 25 our journey will look like this:
Mondays - 3:20-4:20 Everyone for a full hour of improv fun. Development practice will be every Thursday at Jr lunch; Competitive practices will be after school, Wed and Thurs times to be determined.
Stay tuned...there's always more.

COMING TO TOWN...NOT THE CIRCUS BUT THE CIG - TRI-CITY!!

Yes, you've heard right. Grimsby will be playing host to an All Teams Training session, this coming Saturday - Oct 23rd - 1-4pm. It is sure to be an afternoon of awesome improvness, lead fearlessly by our friends from Tri-City. Both our Development and Competitive teams will be there, soaking in all that is improv. Other Tri-City teams will also join us, including many from right here in Niagara. Let the games begin!

FIT...not as in fitness

As you know, we usually begin the year with just this... a blank stage and a few boxes (ignore the heads, they aren't there;). However, this year we find ourselves in a most extraordinary situation. After saying goodbye to a somewhat permanent figure with Grimsby Improv, we looked around and discovered (OK we knew, but go with me here) that the stage wasn't so empty. In fact, 7 pretty awesome improvisors had found their way back to our stage, silently taken the oath, and committed themselves for another year of this crazy thing we call Improv.
Enter stage left: a whole lot of fantastic talent, some new and some back at it from last year, arrived at auditions. Ali Baba, Strangers on a Train, Time Warp and publically owning mistakes has only made them all stronger.
Enter stage right: FIT. Fit has little to do with skill and talent and everything to do with how bodies, talents, and energies mix together on the stage. This is the most difficult and, for us, the most important part of building a strong improv team.
Spot light, down stage centre: The following are asked to attend, in 8s, the next series of team rehearsals: Brittany, Spencer, Dan, Jacob, Hayley, Quinn, Kenny, Sydney, Alex, Mitch, Sam, Hannah, Moira, and Maddy. This will be an opportunity to test "fit". Check the board outside of the aud for a schedule of who is to attend when. Development rehearsals begin this Thurs at JR lunch in Studio 2. Hope to see the following bodies, minds, and spirits there: Alex, Mitch, Raven, Genevieve, Sam, Hannah, Brittany, Moira, and Maddy.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS GIVEN SO MUCH OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS. A GREAT SEASON AWAITS US!!

THE JOY? THE PAIN? WHERE DOES IT ALL GO?

OK, so there's way more joy than pain, but why do we do this thing called improv?

In 2001, Grimsby joined the ranks of the Canadian Improv Games, competiting for the first time in the TriCity Regional tournament. Ever since then, we can't seem to let it go; just ask our alumni who come back year after year. Improv allows us all to be a part of something completely organic, completely original, and completely spontaneous - to begin with a simple (or not so simple) idea and to create something far larger and more outstanding than we could have ever imagined. We couldn't be more proud to be a part of the family that is the Canadian Improv Games.
Curious about the family? Check it out at improv.ca

And so, we welcome all the new members of our family as we continue on the improv journey.
See you there: Wed, Sept 29 and Mon. Oct 4 -Studio 2 - 3:15-4:45

TEAM BUILDING

And now begins the most important part of any improv season...building the team. Teamwork is everything in improv, at least the way we do it! There is no better feeling than that of being supported by those around you.
If I fall, I know they will catch me.
If my mind is blank, someone else's isn't.
If I step out there, they will follow.

We are now building 2 teams: a competitive and a development team. Regardless of the team, what we are looking for is exactly the same. Can you share the stage? Do you know, instinctively, when you are needed and when you are not? Can you be on stage, actively present, and not pull focus? Can others trust you, your ideas, and your physical being? Are you there for the team, always. Yes, skill matters, but it runs a distant second to your ability to be a true team member. For the next few rehearsals, this is what we are watching.
